Basic Questions

Every short drama app follows the same simple model. You watch very short vertical episodes. The first few come free. After that, episodes cost coins or a pass. That split creates most confusion. These five answers are the place to start.

What exactly is a short drama app?

It streams vertical video that is designed for phones. Each series micro drama app arrives as many short episodes. ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama lead. Storylines lean on billionaires, revenge and hidden-identity reveals. Werewolf romances are popular too. China is where the format started, as duanju.

How long does each episode run?

Most episodes last one to two minutes. 60 to 100 seconds is a common target for Western shoots. A series usually has 20 to 100 episodes. ReelShort lists 90 installments for Married at First Sight. ReelShort’s hit Double Life series lists 60. A full series can match a movie in length.

Why do episodes end on cliffhangers?

That is usually the point where free episodes end. The first 5 to 15 are usually free, according to ReelShort. Industry reports cite 8 to 10. The lock tends to arrive right at peak tension. The timing itself is the business model. It also ranks as a top complaint among viewers.

Who owns ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?

Crazy Maple Studio in Sunnyvale, California is behind ReelShort. Behind that studio is China’s COL Group. DramaBox is operated by StoryMatrix of Singapore, which belongs to Beijing Dianzhong Technology. My Drama is a Holywater app, and Holywater was founded in Kyiv in 2020. An equity stake went to Fox Entertainment in October 2025. ReelShort debuted in 2022, and DramaBox launched in 2023.

Can I watch in a web browser or on TV?

Yes, within limits. My Drama has an Apple TV app. We did not find a verified ReelShort TV app. ReelShort’s website offers Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok and email logins. Your viewing progress syncs with the app. You can get free unlocks only in the app.

Cost

Money is the subject people ask about most. The figures shown are US App Store prices as of September 2026. These prices differ by country, platform and promotion. Consider every number approximate. Always start by looking at the price screen. Below is what the listings show.

Is ReelShort actually free?

Partly, and the free part is genuinely free. What people searching “is reel short free” or “is reel short app free” want is the catch. Opening episodes come free. It costs nothing to download. For later ones, you need coins or a VIP pass. You can earn free coins from ads and check-ins.

How do the coins work?

The currency that unlocks episodes is coins. According to ReelShort’s blog, an episode costs around 60 coins. Its smallest pack is about $4.99 for 500 coins. Larger packs add bonus coins. Two episodes open up with one rewarded ad. You earn 100+ coins with a 7-day check-in streak.

Can coins expire?

The answer depends on the app. ReelShort says free reward coins usually expire. Coins you paid for do not expire. My Drama takes a different approach. Its terms say coins are forfeited after 12 months of inactivity. Spend reward coins first and stay active.

How much is a weekly pass?

About $19.99 a week is the usual US price. That price shows up on ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama. Cheaper tiers appear in some apps. ShortMax lists $9.99, and GoodShort starts near $5.99. All these passes renew on their own. Forgetting it for four weeks costs four times as much.

Do apps offer monthly or yearly plans?

A few apps offer them. ReelShort’s blog lists a yearly plan at roughly $199.99. Its monthly price is not the same on every page. So that figure is unconfirmed. About $36.99 a month is what DramaWave lists. Only weekly passes appear for ShortMax in the US.

Can I watch without paying anything?

Yes, provided you are patient. Start with each series’ free first episodes. Watch rewarded ads to unlock more. Don’t break your daily check-in streak. ReelShort’s official YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion channels are a further option. Combining all four goes furthest.

Subscriptions and How to Cancel

Until you stop them, weekly passes renew. That comes as a surprise to plenty of people. It is quick to cancel once you know where. Where to cancel comes down to how you paid. Store purchases are cancelled through the store. Each company handles purchases made on its website.

Does deleting the app cancel my subscription?

No, and plenty of people make this mistake. Removing an app does not end its subscription, Apple says. Google makes the same point about uninstalling. My Drama’s terms echo that warning. Your pass keeps renewing until you cancel it. Cancel first, and then delete.

How can I cancel on iPhone?

Begin by opening the Settings app. Tap your name at the top. Then go to Subscriptions. Choose the short drama app. Tap Cancel and confirm your choice. For safety, act a day before the renewal date.

How can I cancel on Android?

To start, open the Google Play Store app. Next, go to your Subscriptions list. Select the drama app from that list. Tap Cancel and follow the prompts. Do not forget that uninstalling cancels nothing. Recheck the list to confirm the change.

Is it possible to cancel inside the app?

Sometimes, but cancelling through the store is safer. An in-app option under About Subscription is described in ShortMax’s terms. For store buyers, they point to App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google can only control what they billed. If you bought on the website, reach out to the company. Screenshot each and every cancellation.

Why was I charged after a free trial?

The wording of trials can confuse. ShortMax’s developer concedes its “free trial” and “24 hours free” labels confused people. Under its terms, passes renew 24 hours before they expire. The renewal is charged at the same price. Make sure to cancel a day before any trial ends. After that, confirm the store shows it cancelled.

Refund Questions

How refunds work depends on who took your money. App Store charges go through Apple. Play charges go through Google. Website charges are handled by the companies. A refund is not guaranteed by any route. This table lays out every path.

Where you boughtHow you cancelRefund pathThings to watch
iPhone (App Store)Settings, your name, Subscriptions, CancelApple’s Report a Problem pageDeleting the app won’t cancel
Android (Google Play)Google Play, Subscriptions, CancelGoogle within 48 hours, and after that the developerUninstalling does not cancel it

How do I get a refund from Apple?

Head to Apple’s Report a Problem page. Sign in with the Apple ID that paid. Pick the charge and explain in a few words. Within 24 to 48 hours, Apple usually replies. The decision is Apple’s, not the app developer’s. Cancel the pass too, or it renews.

How do refunds work on Google Play?

Timing is the biggest factor here. Google says you may get a refund within 48 hours of purchase. Go directly through Google Play to request it. Once that window passes, contact the developer. ReelShort sends users to Profile, then Feedback. Act quickly when a renewal surprises you.

What about purchases made on a website?

Those go through the app company. Neither Apple nor Google can help there. My Drama’s terms treat web purchases as non-refundable except where law requires. Its terms give EU and UK users a 14-day withdrawal right. Other companies decide their rules for themselves. Before you pay online, check the terms.

Can unused coins be refunded?

Usually not, and the terms state it. My Drama’s terms treat coin purchases as final. ShortMax declines refunds, unless its own fault renders a product unusable. With accidental purchases, a store request may help. Buy the smallest coin pack until a series hooks you. Mistakes then cost less.

Safety and Copycat Apps

Confusion over names is everywhere here. A misspelling can lead to small unrelated apps. Some sites copy major brands. A few downloads are unsafe. Sticking to real names protects your money. These answers sort real from fake.

Is there an app called Real Short?

No, not that we could find. Real Short is just a misspelling of ReelShort. Other misspellings are “real short app”, “realshot”, “reel shot” and probably “shot shorts”. The real name is a single word. The seller shown on the App Store is New Leaf Publishing. Check that before you download.

What exactly are ReelBox, DailyShort and GoldShort TV?

These are small, unrelated apps. ReelBox, which people find via “reel box” or “reelbox tv”, has 50K+ Android installs. It has nothing to do with ReelShort or DramaBox. Often typed “daily short”, DailyShort has 100K+ installs. GoldShort TV is an app for Android TV with 10K+ installs. Most searchers are likely looking for GoodShort.

Is ShortTV the same as ShortMax?

Very likely, but unconfirmed. ShortMax’s legal entity is SHORTTV LIMITED in Hong Kong. Visitors to its website are redirected to ShortTV’s site. Both launched in September 2023. We could not find an official rename announcement. Searches for “short tv” or “short max” also turn up unrelated apps.

Can mod APKs and coin generators be trusted?

No, and none of them is official. Mod APKs are altered copies of apps from outside official stores. One DramaBox look-alike describes its download as an unofficial modified version. Coin generators are unofficial too. There is no way for you to verify what they do. Stay with official stores and websites.

Why is ReelShort’s Trustpilot rating low?

From 250 reviews, ReelShort’s Trustpilot page shows 1.3 out of 5. A frequent complaint is being charged after cancelling. Weekly auto-renewals are frequently mentioned. Others bring up coin prices and denied refunds. What any review site reflects is the people who chose to post. Treat it as a list of things to check, not a verdict.
